How we verify listings
SA Shelter Hub compiles facility data from public sources and marks each listing as Registered or Unconfirmed based on how it was sourced.
Right now the register lists 1035 places, of which 866 are confirmed with an official source. Every listing stays free to contact.
Registered
Cross-checked against at least one official source:
- Provincial Social Development shelter databases
- The National Shelter Movement directory
- The Central Drug Authority treatment-centre list
- SANCA
A registered listing's name, province and facility type have been confirmed to match that source.
Unconfirmed
Listed from a public source (for example an older database, a directory or a community submission) but not yet cross-checked against an official register. The information may be outdated or inaccurate — call ahead before travelling.
Update cycle
Listings are re-checked whenever someone reports a change, and re-synced against official sources over time. Last full check of the register: 1 October 2026.
